Loch Soilleir is a Barony in Ansteorra. We are located in the Clear Lake area of Houston and include Friendswood, Galveston, Pearland, and pretty much the rest of the surrounding area. If you live in and around Beaumont, Port Arthur, and
Orange then you live in the Barony
of Bodermarch. But no matter where you live, you can play with all of us! So what is the Society for Creative Anachronism? We are a medieval recreation society. We recreate the time period of 600a.d. to about 1600a.d. The members of our society recreate those times in many different ways. Some research the clothing, some research the pottery. Some of our members fight either Chivalric or Rapier (broadswords, poleaxes, etc or those swishy things Zorro uses). Playing in the SCA is done in many ways. The most organized way is at weekend events. These are like Renaissance festivals, but only EVERYBODY is in clothing that was found during the time frame mentioned above and the competitions are real, not staged. The competitions range from chivalric and rapier battles to archery to horseback riding. There are also arts & crafts competitions, where artisans display items they have created, and merchants selling their wares. And on Saturday night there is often a feast you can buy into. Other events are demos that are done at movie theaters, schools, or stores. There are also guild meetings. The guilds range from pottery to sewing to brewing. Loch Soilleir also has a fighter practice where YOU can learn how to fight with longswords, poleaxes, etc. or with rapier and sidesword.
